Justin's Testimony
I grew up in the home of Dr. Joseph & Ms. Betty Elwell in Morgantown, WV where my dad pastored Emmanuel Baptist Church. Being raised in a pastor’s home enabled me to gain a strong foundation of Christian teaching and training throughout my childhood. This was strengthened by the opportunity to attend Christian school from kindergarten through 12th grade. As a five year old boy, kneeling in front of my bed, my dad led me to Christ. It didn’t take but 3 years to feel called of God to serve him full-time with my life.
Upon my graduation from high school, I followed God's leading to further my training for the ministry at Hyles-Anderson College. It was here that I met my wife on a blind date at the end of our freshman year. We dated for 3 years and then were finally married. Immediately after I graduated with my degree in Pastoral Theology, I began work on my Master's degree in Practical Theology through an internship program at Fundamental Baptist Missions International. During those two years I was able to gain valuable experience that has been beneficial to me to this day.
My passion for reaching this nation was instilled in me as a child by my parents. From the time I was a young boy to this present day, my dad has helped to start 39 churches in our country. Many times I have been able to be a part of these works: from sweeping out old buildings, to setting up chairs, to more recently designing brochures and helping to lead the organization of the churches. I truly believe that in order to reach the entire world with the gospel it is essential that we plant more churches here in America, where more missionaries can be trained and more funds can be generated.
I have been blessed in my life thus far to have acquired a wealth of experience; not that I am an expert by any means! God has allowed me the opportunity & privilege to serve as bus captain, Sunday school teacher, assistant pastor, music director, nursing home leader, administrative pastor, children’s pastor, outreach director, and labor in various other positions.
It is because of this experience and the calling I know God has placed on my life that I am ready and excited to plant this new church in McKinney, TX.
Amber's Testimony
I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home. I was very blessed to be given many opportunities to serve in our church as a child and teen through ministries like a bus route, the music program, nursing home services, and various other church activities and events. I believe it is partly because of this strong foundation of church involvement that God has brought me to where I am today.
I was saved at the age of 5 when my father led me to Jesus at my bedside, and when I was 13 years old I surrendered to full-time Christian service. God allowed me to receive a Christian education both in the form of home-schooling and also in a Christian academy. Upon my graduation from high school I decided to attend Hyles-Anderson College to continue my Christian training. While at college I was given many opportunities to further my practical Christian experience by serving on a bus route, teaching in a teen girls Sunday school class, working in the teen afternoon program, and being involved in national church conferences.
The most important thing I gained from my college years was my husband! We met at the end of our freshman year and dated through my graduation 3 years later. On July 8, 2006 we were married in my home church in Stilwell, OK. I feel so blessed to be the one who gets to help Justin Elwell in the ministry God has called him to.
Since being married God has allowed us to do some amazing things. In 2009 the door was opened for us to move from IN to Yuma, AZ to help start the Freedom Baptist Church. What a great learning experience to actually be part of a church from its infancy. While at Freedom I was privileged to serve in the church in the areas of church secretary and pianist.
My life's verse is II Timothy 2:21 “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified and meet for the master's use and prepared unto every good work.” It has been and continues to be my heart's desire to be a vessel that God could use in His work. What a joy it is to serve the Lord!
